UNH Science Sleuths

UNH Science Sleuths is a program encouraging scientific discovery and critical thinking in young scientists (pre-school and kindergarten aged children). UNH graduate students from various backgrounds and disciplines  share their subject-matter expertise with young scientists, providing unique opportunities for actively engaging children in topics including biology, earth science, paleontology and physics. Each session includes active investigation  and discussion, followed by a craft corresponding to the topic of the session.  Children are encouraged to take the craft home and continue investigating!

Our Mission

The UNH Science Sleuths is intended to engage pre-school and kindergarten aged children in fun scientific activities designed to stimulate learning and a passion for inquiry in a creative atmosphere.  In this program, UNH graduate students from different scientific backgrounds provide educational experiences to young children in the local community once a month in two sessions.  Pairs of graduate students guide kids through a brief (hour-long) activity that focuses on a scientific topic, and previous programming has included plants, animals, recycling, ladybugs, water, and more.   We began this program because we are passionate about the importance of inviting children from a young age to explore the natural world and to instill a strong sense of scientific inquiry.  Our outreach program is free for participants, and we hope you and your child can join us soon.  This program meets monthly at Memorial Union Building on UNH’s campus, and we are affiliated with the UNH Leitzel Center for Mathematics, Science, and Engineering Education.
